Indicator - Stock rebuilding outcome (1.1.2)

In the roadmap to develop Harvest strategy of BSC in WPP 712, two operation objectives are stated. 1. Increase Spawning Potential Ratio level to 30% in the next five years, at Limit Reference Point of 20%. 2. Improve the blue swimming crab stock above the limit biomass (Blimit) measured based on MSY defined by government. The generation time of BSC is 1.5 to 2 years and the rebuilding timeframe specified is 5 years. It exceeds one generation time. The FIP has envisaged various plans for stock rebuilding like, developing a conservation zone, training in mariculture of BSC so that the fishing pressure is reduced, gear modifications and restrictions, GTK5! and Crab apartment, habitat restoration and enhancement, catch reduction and restocking. The FIP has started implementing these activities and this was enthusiastically discussed in the stakeholder meeting. Regular monitoring is in place to determine whether the rebuilding strategies are effective in rebuilding the stock within the specified timeframe. I feel that the FIP could score 80 in this soon with all the efforts they are putting in rebuilding the stock.

The harvest strategy legislated in early 2020 recognizes that stocks are depleted and require rebuilding towards the target reference point of SPR30%. The HS includes an operational objective of “the ratio of spawning potential from crabs increases to the target refence point SPR30% over a 5-year period”. An objective of BSC Management Plan (70/2016) is to establish sustainable BSC stocks and environment, but it is not giving definite steps for stock rebuilding. APRI is conducting stock rebuilding activities in different provinces all over Indonesia in collaboration with the National Government. From 2018 restocking and fishing gear swap are going on in various provinces successfully. Current monitoring programmes like data collection program conducted by enumerators and landing report can be used effectively for the implementation of stock rebuilding plan.

APRI continued conducting BSC seeds restocking. On February 20, 2019, APRI conducted seeds restocking in collaboration between PT Kemilau Bintang Timur and BPBAP Takalar in Maros (South Sulawesi).

This is the solution of the fulfillment of industrial raw materials that continue to increase that is through the activity of small crab farming. It also develops and assists the Indonesian government in managing and maintaining the sustainability of crab commodities as well as for maintaining stock and population.
