This FIP led by PT Permata Marindo Jaya (“PMJ”) that includes 37 vessels, is focusing on mahi-mahi (Coryphaenahippus), wahoo (Acanthocybiumsolandri), and cobia (Rachycentron canadum) from several Indonesian automatic demersal longline (“Handline Non-Tuna”) fisheries operating in the Arafura Sea, and Indonesian EEZ and the Indian Ocean. This FIP is aiming to identify the main strengths and weaknesses of the fishery unit(s) of assessment, and the extent to which the fishery is consistent with the MSC Fisheries Standard.
This FIP will be a basic FIP with an approach of Comprehensive FIP to make it possible to migrate when ready and equipped. This FIP will address the objectives identified in the MSC Pre-Assessment created by Peter Trott, Fishlistic for this FIP. This FIP will develop catch data time series, also investigate catch trends for each species in the FIP. The analysis of the data and catch trends will be used to contribute to developing an effective management system with the Indonesian Government.
The FIPs supports and contributes to the development, improvement, and sustainability of the mahi-mahi, cobia, and wahoo in Indonesia by improving the availability of accurate data on catches and bycatch, and by collaborating with other institutions working on issues arised, including working together to improve the management and policy towards sustainable fisheries.
