FishChoice is a nonprofit entity focused on promoting sustainability in the seafood industry and promoting ocean conservation through improved fisheries management. We believe strongly in your right to privacy and data protection and have drafted this Privacy Policy to explain our practices for the personal data we collect. This Privacy Policy applies to FishChoice.com, FisheryProgress.org, and any websites, tools, apps, or other technologies that link to this Privacy Policy (“Services”).
1. PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT
FishChoice will collect the following categories of personal data through your use of the Services.
Information you choose to provide us. FishChoice may collect the following categories of personal data from you when you choose to provide it, such as when you create an account or contact us to receive information from us:
- Your account information, such as your username and password
- Your contact information, such as name and email address
- Information about your organization, such as organization name, address, and type
- Information relating to any inquiry you submitted through a “Contact Us” form (“Inquiry Information”), such as the type of inquiry you made (e.g., donation inquiry), your message to us and any subsequent exchanges between you and FishChoice
- Information you provide when you make a report to FishChoice with the express purpose of sharing this information publicly, which could include but are not limited to:
- Seafood products
- Seafood sources
- Business location of the entity you are reporting
- Business contact information of the entity you are reporting
- Notes for distribution and minimum volume sizes
- Fishery Improvement Project (“FIP”) contact information for leadership and participants
- FIP progress data and documentation
- Other FIP-related data that is meant for public access
When you provide information for FIPs, you understand and agree that FishChoice is not responsible for any information that you provide for these purposes and that others may view, collect, and use the information that you provide.
Information we collect automatically. We may collect internet or other electronic network activity automatically from the devices and browsers that you use, including but not limited to: your IP address, mobile device identifier, or other unique personal or online identifiers; your device or browser type and version; the domain name of the web page from which you entered our services; and information about your activity on our services, such as pages visited, click-through rates, and time spent on pages or content. We use this information in aggregate for the limited purposes of developing tools and making updates to the Services to meet your needs.
Fish Choice does not collect sensitive data from you as defined by applicable laws.

- Law enforcement authorities if required to comply with legal requirements, protect other users of the Services, or protect and defend the rights or property of FishChoice
- Third parties in the unlikely event that FishChoice is involved in a transaction or sale or transfer of assets.
FishChoice is an international organization and as such may share your personal data between countries. Where FishChoice makes such transfers, FishChoice takes appropriate measures to ensure your personal data remains protected..
4. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live, you may have certain additional rights regarding your personal data. You may have the right to request:
- Access to your personal data, including in a portable format.
- Deletion of your personal data.
- Correction of your personal data.
- That we restrict our processing of your personal data.
- Revocation of any consent you have previously given to us (which would not affect the lawfulness of any processing we have conducted based on consent before such revocation).
If you would like to exercise these rights, you and your authorized agent may email info@fishchoice.com or contact@fisheryprogress.org or use the Contact Us page on either FishChoice.com or FisheryProgress.org. We may verify your request by asking you to provide information to confirm your identity. If you wish to contact us through an authorized agent, we may request evidence that the agent has valid written authority to submit requests to exercise rights on your behalf. If you would like to submit an appeal from a denial of a request to exercise these rights, you may do so by emailing info@fishchoice.com and/or contact@fisheryprogress.org.
You can also lodge a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority.
5. RETAINING YOUR PERSONAL DATA
FishChoice retains your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected and processed. We generally retain your personal data based on your active membership.
6. UPDATING THIS POLICY
We will continue to update this policy as necessary to comply with new regulations and/or to address changes to the Services. For Privacy Policy updates, we will update the effective date and, where the update contains material changes, we will provide thirty (30) days notice of this through our Service or by email. If you continue to use the Services after changes are implemented, you will be deemed to have accepted the changes.
