Human Rights and Social Responsibility Policy

Since its launch in May 2021, the FisheryProgress Human Rights and Social Responsibility Policy has set a precedent for integrating social responsibility into the FIP model. The policy provides a structured framework to help FIPs evaluate, identify, and address risks across diverse contexts.

Version 2.0 of the HRSR Policy builds on lessons learned during the first four years of implementation and represents the next step toward  a continuous improvement framework. This version of the Policy emphasizes progress and transparency over rigid compliance, allowing for a more flexible and dynamic social improvement model. It also introduces key updates to align with Human Rights Due Diligence principles, intended to strengthen alignment with buyer expectations and enhance the credibility of the information featured on FisheryProgress. By prioritizing visibility around both progress and gaps, this version aims to drive collaboration among stakeholders and support more targeted, meaningful actions.

With formal monitoring and evaluation now underway, version 2.0 seeks to address critical challenges and concerns raised during interim stakeholder engagement. Future iterations of the Policy will be informed by the findings from the independent M&E effort led by Causal Design and by practical implementation feedback from FIP practitioners. This iterative approach ensures the Policy remains dynamic and responsive to evolving needs, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for sustainable and responsible practices.

FishChoice always welcomes feedback to ensure the Policy remains meaningful yet practical to implement. Please submit your comments using this form.
